// consulting · fractional ai/cto

Technical direction, a few days a month.

Someone who decides with you on models, architecture and vendors, and answers for what they decide. Without hiring a full-time CTO.

There is a band of companies where technology matters too much to leave to chance and not enough to justify a full-time role. That is where this makes sense.

What separates it from consulting is that it does not end with a document. A fractional AI/CTO picks the stack, reviews the code, talks to the vendors, says no to projects that do not stand up, and is still there when their own decisions need checking.

What we take on

04
01

The choices that are expensive to get wrong

Which model, which vendor, what to build and what to buy, where the data lives. Decisions made once and paid for over years.

02

Architecture, not just strategy

Diagrams that turn into code, not slides. Where it helps, we write the first piece ourselves so the team has a reference rather than a description.

03

Dealing with vendors

Reading a technical proposal, spotting what it does not say, defining what counts as delivered. It is where a company without a CTO loses the most money.

04

Growing the team

What the people you hire need to know, how to assess it in an interview, what the people already there can learn. Including when the goal is that you stop needing us.

Questions we get first

04

How much time do you actually give?

One to four days a month, agreed and on a fixed rhythm. Below a day a month it is not technical direction, it is being reachable by phone, and that has another name.

How is this different from a consultant?

A consultant analyses and delivers recommendations. A fractional CTO carries them out and answers for the result: they choose, they sign, and six months later they are still there when that choice needs revisiting.

Is it useful if we already have developers?

It is often the best case. A team that can write code but has never taken a model to production does not need more hands: it needs someone who has already got it wrong once.

Can we start without a long commitment?

Yes. The first block is three months, which is the minimum for the effect of a decision to show. After that, we carry on or we shake hands.
